Botanical Etching

Nov: Saturday 7th

If you love nature, this is the perfect workshop for you, as you will learn how to create prints of botanical images, inspired by the plants in our garden, using the Drypoint etching process.

Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking method which involves cutting your design into the surface of a plate with a sharp etching needle. At marmalade we like to use Perspex for our plates as it's light and easy to handle. Prints produced from this process have a soft-edged line, suited to capturing flowers and foliage effectively. Drypoint etching can also be used to create amazing and bold graphic images too, if that's more your style.
You will have time to explore and collect plants, reference our library for ideas and to experiment with textures to get different effects in your prints. For those with previous experience, we can help you refresh your skills, and you are welcome to spend the time working on your own botanical project, using our garden for reference.
